On 16 October, an extended meeting of the Board of the Agency on Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan was held to review the performance of the state statistical authorities for the first nine months of 2026 and determine priorities for the remainder of the year.
The meeting was attended by Jamshed Nurmahmadzoda, Director of the Agency on Statistics, Deputy Directors, heads of structural divisions of the central office, heads of local statistical authorities, and other responsible officials.
During the meeting, the performance of the state statistical authorities over the reporting period was analysed and reviewed. Particular attention was paid to ensuring the accuracy, completeness and reliability of statistical data, compliance with legislative requirements, improvement of statistical methodology, digitalization of data collection and processing, and addressing existing shortcomings.
It was noted that during the first nine months of 2026, the Agency’s activities were carried out in accordance with the instructions and directives of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the resolutions of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, and the Statistical Work Programme for 2026. During this period, 7,146 statistical assignments were completed. In addition, the Agency received 2,741 documents, prepared and dispatched 3,642 responses to appeals, official requests and other correspondence, and provided users with 2,980 reports, statistical compendiums and sectoral bulletins.

A number of measures were implemented to improve statistical methodology and the statistical reporting system. New statistical reporting forms were developed and approved, amendments and additions were made to the General Classification of Types of Economic Activity, and the use of digital technologies in data collection was expanded.
Alongside these achievements, the analysis revealed that some city and district statistical authorities continue to face shortcomings related to the full coverage of reporting entities, the timely submission of reports, and the logical validation of statistical indicators.
During the discussion, Jamshed Nurmahmadzoda, Director of the Agency on Statistics, issued specific instructions to the heads of local statistical authorities and the responsible officials of relevant structural divisions to address the identified shortcomings and improve the quality of statistical data. He emphasized that the quality of official statistics depends not only on the volume of reports collected, but, above all, on the objectivity, completeness, timeliness and reliability of the data provided.
In this regard, the heads of statistical authorities in the regions, Dushanbe, cities and districts were instructed to strictly comply with the requirements of the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan “On State Statistics”; subject each report to logical validation before finalizing the results; compare indicators with primary data and other reliable sources; and prevent any inflation or distortion of statistical data.
The need to strengthen cooperation with tax authorities, justice authorities, local executive bodies of state power and other relevant institutions was also emphasized in order to ensure the full coverage of business entities in statistical reporting. Responsible officials were further instructed to strengthen the monitoring of data in agriculture, industry, construction and services; ensure the proper use of electronic reporting systems; safeguard data; and reinforce the personal accountability of staff.

The meeting also addressed the development of cooperation with development partners, staff training and professional development, the transition to electronic data collection methods, the improvement of statistical surveys, including household budget and labour force surveys, and the implementation of measures under the State Strategy for Combating Corruption in the Republic of Tajikistan for the period up to 2030.
At the conclusion of the meeting, a corresponding Board resolution was adopted to ensure the effective implementation of forthcoming tasks and address the identified shortcomings. Under the resolution, the heads of the Agency’s structural divisions and local statistical authorities were instructed to ensure the full and timely implementation of the Statistical Work Programme for 2026, maintain the accuracy and reliability of statistical indicators, fulfil the adopted instructions, and submit reports on the work completed to the Agency’s management within the established deadlines.
