RELIABLE STATISTICS — AN IMPORTANT FOUNDATION FOR SUSTAINABLE NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Every year, World Statistics Day is celebrated around the world on October 20. This date highlights the importance of official statistics in assessing socio-economic processes, developing government policy, and making well-founded decisions. It also reflects the important role of professionals in this field in providing society with accurate and reliable information.

In the Republic of Tajikistan, the state statistical system has passed through important stages of development during the period of independence and has gradually adapted to the requirements of the modern economy and international standards. The Agency on Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, as the authorized state body in the field of statistics, carries out activities related to the collection, processing, analysis, and dissemination of official statistical data, as well as meeting the information needs of government bodies, economic entities, and society.

During the years of independence, important measures have been taken to improve the national statistical system, conduct population and agricultural censuses, develop statistical surveys, and improve the quality of official data. In particular, the implementation of international standards and classifications, the introduction of electronic reporting, and the improvement of data collection and processing procedures have contributed to increasing the efficiency of statistical authorities.

One of the important areas of development in the sector is the improvement of statistical reporting forms and the coverage of pressing contemporary issues. In this regard, the development and approval of new statistical reporting forms in the field of climate change and hydrofluorocarbons, as well as the improvement of the statistical reporting form on emergencies, are of particular importance.

The introduction of new reporting forms makes it possible to systematically collect the necessary data on climate change indicators, the use, import, and export of hydrofluorocarbons, as well as other operations involving these substances. This information provides a reliable data foundation for assessing environmental processes, monitoring the implementation of the international obligations of the Republic of Tajikistan, and preparing national reports.

At the same time, improving the statistical reporting form on emergencies, including the separate presentation of data on injured persons and fatalities by sex, age groups, and disability, helps to determine more accurately the impact of natural disasters on the population and to develop effective measures for disaster prevention and the protection of citizens.

These initiatives demonstrate that, in addition to reflecting the country’s actual socio-economic situation, official statistics also play an important role in studying major environmental issues, assessing risks, and developing government policy based on reliable evidence.

In the context of the rapid development of information technologies and growing demand for accurate data, improving the quality of official statistics, ensuring the timely submission of data, refining methodologies, and aligning national indicators with international standards remain priority tasks for statistical authorities.
