More than 802 thousand square metres of housing commissioned in Tajikistan during the first half of 2026

According to official statistics, the construction sector in the Republic of Tajikistan continued to develop during January–June 2026, with the volume of commissioned housing and key social infrastructure facilities increasing significantly compared to the same period of the previous year.

During this period, residential buildings with a total floor area of 802.9 thousand square metres were commissioned, representing a 1.5-fold increase compared to the first half of the previous year.

By region, the largest share of newly commissioned housing was recorded in Dushanbe, where 265.6 thousand square metres, or 33.1% of the total commissioned housing, were completed. This was followed by Sughd Region with 255.4 thousand square metres (31.8%), Khatlon Region with 202.9 thousand square metres (25.3%), and the Districts of Republican Subordination with 71.5 thousand square metres (8.9%).

Alongside housing construction, the development of social infrastructure also continued. During the first half of the year, five general education institutions with a total capacity of 11,675 student places were constructed and commissioned. Of these, 6,239 places were in Khatlon Region, 2,308 places in Sughd Region, 3,032 places in the Districts of Republican Subordination, and 96 places in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).

In addition, to improve children’s access to preschool education, preschool institutions with a total capacity of 1,792 places were commissioned during the reporting period. Specifically, facilities providing 1,204 places were built in Khatlon Region, 128 places in Sughd Region, and 460 places in Dushanbe.

Significant progress was also made in the development of healthcare infrastructure. During the same period, outpatient healthcare facilities with a capacity of 276 patient visits per shift were constructed and put into operation.

The sustainable development of the construction sector is one of the key indicators of the country’s socio-economic development. The continued implementation of government programmes in this area is of strategic importance for further improving the quality of life of the population.
