CEREMONIAL MEETING ON THE OCCASION OF WORLD STATISTICS DAY

Today, a ceremonial meeting was held at the Agency on Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan on the occasion of World Statistics Day. The meeting was attended by the Agency’s management, employees of the central office, and staff of the statistical authorities of Dushanbe.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Director of the Agency on Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Jamshed Nurmahmadzoda, sincerely congratulated the participants on World Statistics Day and wished them good health, well-being, and significant success in their responsible professional activities.

In his speech, the Director of the Agency emphasized that official statistics are one of the key instruments of public administration and a reliable foundation for making well-informed decisions in the field of the country’s socio-economic development. According to him, amid rapid socio-economic development, ensuring accurate, precise, timely, and reliable statistical data is of particular importance, while the results of the activities of statistical authorities play a significant role in the development and implementation of government programmes.

The Director of the Agency also paid special attention to improving the quality of statistical data, enhancing methodologies, making extensive use of modern information technologies, and digitalizing statistical processes. It was emphasized that, to achieve significant results, every employee in the sector must work with a strong sense of responsibility, adhere to professional principles, and demonstrate a serious attitude towards the fulfilment of official duties.

During the speech, the importance of preparations for the 2030 Population and Housing Census of the Republic of Tajikistan was also emphasized. The responsibility of statistical authorities for ensuring full population coverage, the accuracy of the data collected, and the effective use of the census results was considered particularly important.

Subsequently, the Deputy Director of the Agency on Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Zarina Nazarzoda, continued the ceremonial meeting by sharing her views on the importance of World Statistics Day, the role of statistical professionals in providing reliable information, and the need to strengthen professional responsibility.

During the further proceedings, other participants also delivered speeches on the achievements of the national statistical system, the contribution of sector employees to ensuring information transparency, improving the quality of statistical indicators, and developing professional cooperation. The speeches particularly emphasized the role of official statistics in assessing the actual socio-economic situation of the country and identifying its priority development areas.

During the ceremonial meeting, special attention was also paid to expanding international cooperation between the Agency on Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan and statistical authorities of foreign countries and international organizations.

It was noted that in recent years, the Agency’s bilateral and multilateral cooperation has expanded, resulting in the signing of a number of memoranda of understanding and cooperation documents. These agreements provide favourable conditions for the exchange of experience and statistical data, the improvement of methodologies, the enhancement of specialists’ professional skills, and the introduction of modern information technologies.

In particular, memoranda of understanding on cooperation have been signed between the Agency on Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan and the statistical authorities of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Malaysia. Cooperation with the Statistical Centre of the Islamic Republic of Iran has also been expanded, and a relevant cooperation document has been signed in this area.

In addition, the Agency on Statistics has established productive cooperation with international organizations and development partners, including the United Nations, the United Nations World Food Programme, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the World Health Organization, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA).

Within the framework of this cooperation, particular attention is given to data exchange, the conduct of sample surveys, the development of statistical capacity, the improvement of data collection and processing methods, the digitalization of statistical processes, and the use of new data sources.

It was emphasized that the continuation of international cooperation, the implementation of signed agreements, and the use of advanced practices from foreign countries play an important role in developing the national statistical system, improving the quality of statistical indicators, and ensuring information transparency.

Attention was also drawn to the need to use digital technologies, improve data collection and processing methods, comply with statistical methodological requirements, and strengthen public confidence in official data.

At the conclusion of the meeting, it was emphasized that the further development of the national statistical system largely depends on the professionalism, sense of responsibility, initiative, and productive cooperation of employees in the sector.
