CARGO TRANSPORTATION VOLUME IN TAJIKISTAN INCREASED BY MORE THAN 15 PERCENT IN THE FIRST NINE MONTHS OF 2026

From January to September 2026, a total of 132 million 899 thousand tons of cargo was transported by all modes of transport in the Republic of Tajikistan, representing an increase of 15.6 percent compared with the same period last year. This indicator demonstrates the growth in cargo transportation volumes and the important role of the transport sector in ensuring the movement of goods and the country’s economic activity.

Road transport occupies the leading position in the structure of cargo transportation. During the reporting period, 126 million 957.8 thousand tons of cargo were transported by this mode of transport, accounting for 95.5 percent of the total cargo transportation volume. Cargo transportation by road increased by 16 percent compared with January–September 2025.

The significant share of road transport in the overall structure of cargo transportation highlights the importance of this mode of transport in delivering products, supplying markets, and connecting production centers with consumer regions.

In the regional distribution, Khatlon Region leads in terms of cargo transportation volume. From January to September 2026, 50 million 387.1 thousand tons of cargo were transported in this region, which, according to the data provided, accounted for 39.7 percent of the total cargo transportation volume.

In Sughd Region, cargo transportation amounted to 39 million 744.3 thousand tons, or 31.3 percent. In the districts under republican subordination, 18 million 444.8 thousand tons (14.5 percent) were transported; in the city of Dushanbe, 17 million 130.2 thousand tons (13.5 percent); and in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, 1 million 251.4 thousand tons (1 percent).

The regional distribution shows that the main share of cargo transportation is attributable to Khatlon and Sughd regions. Combined, the share of these two regions, according to the figures provided, accounts for 71 percent of the total cargo transportation volume. This reflects their significant position in the country’s cargo transportation structure.

Alongside road transport, rail transport also plays an important role in cargo transportation. During the reporting period, 5 million 941.1 thousand tons of cargo were transported by rail, including loading, unloading, and the transportation of transit cargo. This figure is 6.4 percent higher than in the same period of 2025.

Overall, the increase in cargo transportation volume during the first nine months of 2026 indicates a positive trend in the performance of this sector.
