More than 2.1 Million Members of the Labour Force in Tajikistan Live in Rural Areas

According to the Labour Force Survey 2025, the labour force aged 15–75 years in Tajikistan totaled 3,018,773 persons. Of these, 1,950,415 (64.6%) were men and 1,068,358 (35.4%) were women.

By region, Khatlon Region recorded the largest labour force, with more than one million people.

It was followed by Sughd Region with 1,077,647 persons, the Districts of Republican Subordination with 528,489 persons, Dushanbe City with 320,835 persons, and the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) with 90,724 persons.

By place of residence, the majority of the labour force lives in rural areas. According to the survey, 2,152,231 persons reside in rural areas, while 866,542 persons live in urban areas.

The age distribution shows that the largest group consists of persons aged 30–34 years, numbering 413,717. They are followed by those aged 25–29 years with 383,106 persons and 35–39 years with 377,378 persons.

The survey also found that 2,335,035 persons were married, 389,344 persons had never been married, and 81,520 persons had remarried following the dissolution of a previous marriage.

Regarding educational attainment, more than half of the country’s labour force—1,604,641 persons—have completed upper secondary education. In addition, 576,485 persons have completed higher professional education, 479,886 persons have basic secondary education, and 195,094 persons have completed secondary vocational education.

The Labour Force Survey is a sample-based statistical survey conducted to obtain detailed information on the labour market, employment, unemployment, economic activity, and the socio-demographic characteristics of the population.
