NUMBER OF FOREIGN TOURISTS INCREASED BY 15.8 PERCENT

Tourism in Tajikistan is considered one of the key sectors in the country’s economic development, and in recent years, this industry has been rapidly growing in the Republic of Tajikistan.
Each year, the number of foreign tourists visiting Tajikistan steadily increases.

During the first quarter of the current year, Tajikistan was visited by 367.8 thousand foreigners — an increase of 42.7 thousand people, or 13.1 percent, compared to the same period last year.

According to statistical data, over 307 thousand of these visitors are classified as tourists according to the methodology of the World Tourism Organization. This represents an increase of 15.8 percent compared to the same period last year.

The number of foreign citizens arriving from CIS countries reached 343.6 thousand people, or 93.2 percent of the total number, of which 286.6 thousand were tourists.
The number of foreign citizens coming from non-CIS countries amounted to more than 25 thousand people (6.8 percent of the total), of which 20.4 thousand were tourists.

During the reporting period, most foreign visitors to Tajikistan came from Uzbekistan — over 236.4 thousand people, making up 64.1 percent of the total.
The number of tourists arriving from Russia in the first quarter of this year exceeded 87 thousand people, accounting for 23.6 percent of the total number of tourists.
In third place is Kyrgyzstan — 8.7 thousand visitors, followed by Kazakhstan — 8.3 thousand, Turkmenistan — 1.6 thousand.

From non-CIS countries, the main sources were:

  • China — 7.1 thousand
  • Iran — 3.9 thousand
  • Afghanistan — 3.2 thousand
  • USA — 1.6 thousand
  • Turkey — 1.4 thousand
  • Germany — 0.7 thousand
  • India — 0.6 thousand
    and others.

In January–March 2025, there were 200 registered tourism companies operating across the country.

During this period, 216 hotels (including privately owned) were functioning, including:

  • 6 five-star hotels
  • 24 four-star hotels
  • 18 three-star hotels
  • 2 two-star hotels
  • 8 one-star hotels
  • 158 hotels without a category

The reporting period also saw the operation of:

  • 55 hostels and motels
  • 57 sanatoriums
  • 4 children’s sanatoriums and wellness camps
  • 6 health and wellness centers
  • 10 holiday homes
  • 1 guesthouse and camping site
  • 4 tourism and recreational bases

The average number of employees in tourism service providers amounted to 3,656 people, and the revenue from services provided during this period totaled 81.2 million somoni.
