On the sidelines of the 57th session of the United Nations Statistical Commission, a meeting took place between the Director of the Statistics Agency, Jamshed Nurmahmadzoda, and the Head of the Statistics Section of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Mr. João Pedro Azevedo.
During the meeting, issues related to conducting the MICS statistical survey — the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey, which is primarily focused on child-related statistics — were discussed. The parties also considered the pilot testing of certain modules of this survey in Tajikistan during 2026. In addition, support to the Statistics Agency regarding the new classification in the field of alternative child care, which is one of the issues discussed at the 57th session of the UN Statistical Commission, was also reviewed.

The Director of the Statistics Agency noted that the planned survey is necessary and timely for the Republic of Tajikistan, as it will provide statistical data on maternal and child health, water supply and sanitation, gender equality, household conditions, and other important indicators.
Mr. Pedro Azevedo stated that the survey will be conducted in the Republic of Tajikistan in cooperation with development partners and emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation between the two sides in addressing other issues related to statistics.
