Meeting of the Director of the Agency on Statistics with the Head of the Asian Development Bank in Tajikistan, Mr. Ko Sakamoto

On April 22, the Director of the Agency on Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Jamshed Nurmuhammadzoda, held a meeting with the Head of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Tajikistan, Mr. Ko Sakamoto.

This meeting followed earlier discussions between the Director of the Agency on Statistics and the Head of the Economic Department of the ADB, Ms. Elaione Tan, which took place on the sidelines of the 56th session of the UN Statistical Commission in New York, USA. Other experts from the ADB’s main office also participated in the meeting in an online format.

Both sides emphasized that organizing such a meeting was extremely necessary and timely. During the discussions, they addressed the ongoing cooperation between the Agency on Statistics and the ADB, joint projects that have been implemented, and prospects for expanding collaboration—particularly in the area of training highly qualified specialists.

The main issue raised by the Director of the Agency on Statistics was the need for support from the Asian Development Bank in conducting an agricultural census. Jamshed Nurmuhammadzoda highlighted the importance of agricultural indicators and the sector’s contribution to the country’s Gross Domestic Product, noting that conducting an agricultural census is a crucial step for the development of this sector. The primary goal of the census is to gather accurate data on the state of agriculture, which will be used for forming macroeconomic policy.

The Head of the ADB in Tajikistan, Mr. Ko Sakamoto, also acknowledged the significance of carrying out the agricultural census and stated that the issue of its funding would be considered within the ADB’s available resources.
