Experts from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), Eurostat, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), as well as representatives from the statistical offices of Norway and Iceland, have arrived in Dushanbe to conduct a global assessment of Tajikistan’s national statistical system.
During the meeting, the Director of the Agency on Statistics, Jamshed Nurmahmadzoda, expressed confidence that the expert mission on the global assessment of the national statistical system would contribute to the development of official statistics in the country.
Jamshed Nurmahmadzoda also emphasized that the Agency on Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, as the authorized body for implementing state policy in the field of statistics, collects and disseminates data in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan “On State Statistics” dated January 12, 2010.
“It is gratifying that today Tajikistan has aligned its national statistical indicators with international standards and presents them both nationally and internationally,” noted the Director of the Agency.
The guests were presented with the legal framework of the national statistical system and the authority to collect statistical data. The structure of the national statistical bodies and the coordination of activities between various entities were also highlighted.
Agency staff presented a comprehensive report to the guests on financial resources allocated for statistical work and the human resources of the national statistical authority.
According to the meeting participants, these steps will make an important contribution to improving transparency and building trust in official statistics.
The expert mission for the global assessment of the national statistical system will continue its work until May 28.
