This figure is 2.0 percent higher than in the same period of 2025, indicating the continuation of the population growth trend in the country.
Population growth is one of the key demographic indicators, with its dynamics primarily determined by the balance between births and deaths, as well as population migration processes. Overall, changes in the population of the republic are shaped by natural increase and the impact of migration processes on the total population.
An analysis of regional data shows that the population is unevenly distributed across the territory of the republic. In terms of population size, Khatlon Region ranks first, with 3 million 919.2 thousand people residing there as of 1 July 2026.
Sughd Region ranks second in terms of population, with its population reaching 3 million 35.8 thousand people.
In the districts under central government jurisdiction, the population amounted to 2 million 325.1 thousand people. In Dushanbe, as of the indicated date, the population was recorded at 1 million 300.8 thousand people.
In the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, the population amounted to 236.8 thousand people.
Based on the indicators as of 1 July 2026, it can be concluded that the population growth trend in the Republic of Tajikistan continues, with the total population increasing by 2.0 percent compared with the same period of the previous year.
This trend, while having a positive impact on the country’s labour potential and domestic market, also increases the need for continued measures aimed at developing social infrastructure, improving the quality of services, and making effective use of human resources.
