According to official statistics, the total agricultural output produced by all categories of farms in Tajikistan amounted to TJS 11.68 billion during January–May 2026, representing a 7.5% increase in real terms compared with the same period of 2025.
The growth was driven by positive performance in both crop production and livestock farming. Crop production reached TJS 3.79 billion, increasing by 4.9%, while livestock production totaled TJS 7.89 billion, up 8.7% compared with the corresponding period of the previous year.
Household farms continued to play the leading role in agricultural production, accounting for 58.7% of total output. Dehkan (private farming) households contributed 25.9%, while collective and public farms accounted for 15.4%.
During the first five months of 2026, all categories of farms produced:
Compared with the same period of 2025, production of potatoes increased by 16.2%, fruits by 4.5%, and melons and gourds by 2.3%. At the same time, production of cereals declined by 2.0%, vegetables by 10.2%, and fodder crops by 3.7%.
As of 1 June 2026, the national cattle population reached 3.07 million head, representing an increase of 9.4% compared with the same date last year. The number of sheep and goats rose to 8.20 million head, up 11.6% year-on-year.
Household farms accounted for 94.2% of the country’s cattle and 81.8% of all sheep and goats, underscoring their significant contribution to the development of the livestock sector.
The cattle population increased across all regions of the country, including 11.4% in the Sughd Region, 8.9% in the Khatlon Region, 5.4% in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, and 8.6% in the Districts of Republican Subordination.
These results demonstrate the continued positive development of Tajikistan’s agricultural sector and its growing contribution to national food security and sustainable economic growth during the first five months of 2026.
