Today, the 65th plenary session of the Conference of European Statisticians (CES) in Geneva, Switzerland has started its work where the Director of the Agency on statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Ms. Hasanzoda Gulnora is taking part at the level of the statistical services heads of the countries of the world and CIS countries.

The poverty issues, statistics on sustainable development goals; climate change, demographic projections, modernization of official statistics and other important topics will be addressed at this Conference.

Today on June 19, the issues of poverty measurement, methodological problems of poverty measurement, comparability of poverty indicators have been considered.

The main report was presented by Mr. Joao Pedro Avezededo, the World Bank s Leading Economist who in his Report noted the positive activity of the Agency on Statistics in measuring multidimensional poverty and that in Tajikistan a measure of subjective well-being was used to identify the main components of the Multidimensional Poverty Index.

It should be noted that in the Agency on statistical, the task for expanding the indicators of the Household Budget Survey through conduction of modular household surveys and modernization of the Household Budget Survey (HBS) is of great importance.

This approach is aimed to assess the poverty both on a monetary and non-monetary basis which is based on the measuring of the Multidimensional Poverty Index in order to obtain a high level of disaggregated information on poverty, employment, malnutrition, health, geographical targeting to administrative units to assist statistical “invisible groups” of vulnerable population.

Within the framework of the World Bank Project three five days regional seminars on introducing new modules into the Household Budget Survey and improving the HBS in the near future was carried with the participation of International Experts for HBS employees in 2016 – 2017.

From January to March 2017, a new questionnaire developed by the WB Experts and other partners jointly with the national experts of the Agency on statistical was tested in 750 households in all regions of the country. The collecting information method on HBS indicators for new questionnaires through electronic collection on tablets was also changed, using the electronic program for population survey (transition from traditional paper collection method to modern collection technology).

The conference will last until June 22, 2017.
