The Agency on Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan held a Donor Meeting

The Agency on Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan held a Donor Meeting which was attended by the leadership of the Agency on Statistics, MCC, representatives of the World Bank, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Tajikistan, UNFPA, UNICEF, UNDP, World Health Organization (WHO), Asian Development Bank, representatives of ministries and departments, heads of the departments of the Agency on Statistics and the staff of the Project Implementation Team of the National Strategy for Development of Statist Project under in the Agency on Statistics.

The following issues were discussed at the course of the meeting: the Coordinating Council for the Development of the National Statistical System of the Agency on Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the implementation of the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) ECASTAT Project, additional support for the comprehensive implementation of the NSDS and new requirements for statistical information.

On the first issue as per the agenda Ms. Gukasova T.P, Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist spoke and noted that in order to develop effective cooperation in the field of statistics between the development partners and the Agency for Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan as well as to avoid duplication of activities of the stakeholders and its related coordination at the proper level it was necessary to establish the Coordinating Council for the Development of the National Statistical System under the Agency for Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.

To this end, the Agency for Statistics has developed the provision on the Coordinating Council, which was discussed at the Donor Meeting. It was decided to discuss this issue at the level of the Donor Coordinating Council and to present proposal from the Donor Council.

Mr. Rustam Ziyoev - Project Coordinator of the ECASTAT Project during his presentation noted that the Project was signed and ratified by the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan on February 11, 2015 and the declaration on the project effectiveness was issued by the World Bank on May 29, 2015.

Regarding the technical assistance, the meetings were held within the framework of the Project with representatives of the Tajik National University, College of Mining, Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Statistical College, State University and the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan.

For the implementation of the Project the basic documents such as the procurement plan, budget, and project implementation plan were prepared and currently under the approval by the World Bank.

Project Coordinator also noted that the NSDS Project is implementing a variety of activities, including almost all the surveys provided for in the framework of the NSDS will be implemented by the Project, however a lot of activities remain unimplemented due to lack of funding.

The Project effectiveness on the implementation of the NSDS until 2018 will considerably increase if there is implementation of the remaining measures of the Strategy.

Deputy Director of the Agency for Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. K. Davlatzoda, in his presentation spoke about the support of the implementation of the NSDS which is not covered by the ECASTAT Project.

At the Donor Meeting it was decided to support the conduction of all activities /actions (from the beginning to end) under ECASTAT Project on the surveys mentioned in the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics Project (NSDS) and to ask the confirmation intention from the donors who had previously expressed the willingness to finance the activities of the NSDS.
