A seminar to discuss the indicators from "TojikInfo" database and a new MDG database was held at the Statistical Agency on August 29.

The workshop was conducted by experts of the Statistical Agency under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan in cooperation with the UNICEF Tajikistan.

This event was attended by specialists from ministries, agencies, international organizations, experts of the Statistical Agency and the main computing center (MCC).

At this meeting Shokirov Sh.Sh., First Deputy Director of the Statistical Agency, Norov K.D., Deputy Director of the Statistical Agency and Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at UNICEF Tajikistan Ibodova Shukufa explained the goals and objectives set for the statistical offices. They pointed out that after presentation and opening of a new "TojikInfo" database there is a need to discuss the database indicators for improving access to high-quality and timely information, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in particular.

To use the existing "TojikInfo" database the Agency experts made a presentation of the DevInfo software and its development in Tajikistan. The users were presented with the opportunities for compilation of tables, construction of graphs and preparation of maps to be included in reports and presentations.

Then the participants were provided with a list of indicators on demography, health, education, environment, nutrition, economics, child protection, information and communication. During the discussion it was mentioned the inexpediency of databases duplication, the reduction of some indicators, and more data in the regional section. The workshop participants suggested that data sources should be added to the list of indicators, and then comments and suggestions for improvement of the indicators will be given in writing; it was also suggested that the MDG indicators should be excluded from the "TojikInfo" database.

The participants expressed the wish to make a presentation and organize training on the use of "TojikInfo" after updating the database.
