A meeting with the World Bank mission

A meeting with the World Bank mission composed with Mr. Gregory Kisunko - Senior Specialist in the public sector, Mr. Mustafa Dinc - Senior Economist / Statistician, Mr. AlisherRajabov - the World Bank Economist, took place at the Agency on Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, from 14th to 18th of April, 2014.

The goal of the mission was to develop an application to receive funds from the Trust Fund of ECASTAT in order to achieve priorities, set forth in the National Strategy for Development of Statistics (NSDS) for 2013-2017 years.

National Strategy for Development of Statistics is aimed at strengthening the institutional capacity of the Agency on Statistics and national statistical services, improving the production of statistics, improving the dialogue between users and producers, strengthening the material and technical base, information technology and data processing automation.

A meeting was also held with the Director of the Agency on Statistics, Mrs. Hasanova Gulnora Kendzhaevna, heads of sector departments and divisions of agencies, and the main computer center. Components of the project, as well as the improvement of the statistical system, using the funds of other development partners, were discussed in details at the meeting.

In this regard, a donor meeting was held at the Agency on Statistics on 16th of April that was attended by representatives of international organizations, such as the World Bank (WB), Asian Development Bank (ADB), European Union project on health care and food security, Turkish Agency for International Cooperation and Development, German Agency for International cooperation, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Tajikistan, United Nations Children s Fund (UNICEF), the World Food Programme (WFP) and representatives from other organizations.

The World Bank and the management of the Agency briefed about the project, i.e. sectors that will be covered in the statistical system in Tajikistan for the next four years. In addition, it was decided that the Agency shall prepare the final version of the application and provide to all other donors for the review and suggestions.
