Inter-ministerial meeting of the Statistical Council

On October 24 there was a regular meeting of interdepartmental Statistical Council at the Statistical Agency.

The Council reviewed the draft action plan to implement the recommendations of the Global Assessment of the National Statistical System of the Republic of Tajikistan.

The assessment process was initiated in response to a request by the Statistical Agency under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan made in July 2011 and it was the first assessment conducted in 2012 by the experts from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Eurostat and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). It is observed that the official statistics is important for policy-making in the modern society and it is vital to monitor the impact of the policy and a crucial element for the society around us to understand. Comparable statistics between countries and regions is necessary in globalization of the world: the Global Assessment is a tool for building a sustainable statistical system that efficiently and effectively meets the needs of users. The aim of the global assessment is to provide a picture of the official statistics development status in the country.

The Global Assessment report says that some recommendations have already been implemented and an action plan on complete implementation of the recommendations was developed together with the ministries and agencies that produce statistics. The action plan includes around 200 goals for 2013-2020.

An action plan to implement the global assessment was approved at the meeting, and it was decided to submit the plan to the ministries and agencies for the implementation.

The next question of the agenda was the coming agricultural census. The members of the Council were briefed on the progress made in the preparation for the forthcoming agricultural census, which will be held for the first time in the Republic of Tajikistan November 15 through December 15, 2013.

In conclusion all members signed the minutes of the Council; it was decided to hold the next meeting of the Council in the third week of December 2013.
