On September 27 a workshop on the harmonization of indicators of a new "TojikInfo" database was conducted at the Statistical Agency

  The seminar was conducted by the experts the Statistical Agency under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan in cooperation with the UNICEF. The event was attended by experts of the ministries, departments, international organizations, the specialists of the Statistical Agency and the MCC.

Director of the Statistical Agency Mukhammadieva B.Z., UNISEF monitoring and evaluation specialist Ibodova Shukufa explained the aims and objectives set for the statistical offices and pointed out that there is a recognized need to improve access to quality information and strengthen national capacity in monitoring, analysis, dissemination and reporting on progress as far as national human development indicators are concerned, in particular the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Strategies for improving the wellbeing of the population to strengthen the policy based on the evidence in Tajikistan.

DevInfo is software that was recommended by the United Nations Development Group to support the monitoring and the MDG reporting. It can also be used to track national indicators and meeting the requirements of the database system, which can cover the data from the different sectors and consolidate multiple databases on human development at national and decentralized levels.

Taking into account the experience and lessons learned, there is a need to support the TojikInfo database system with a focus on sustainability and its complementarity with existing and evolutionary systems.

The specialists of the Statistical Agency made a presentation about the DevInfo program and its development in Tajikistan. Possibility of using the existing databases for users, such as compilation of tables, graphs and maps for inclusion in reports and presentations was provided at the workshop.

At present, there is the need to create a common database based on the latest figures, and the preliminary list of indicators on population, demography, health, education, nutrition, child protection, fiscal indicators, and etc. was provided. Comments were made on the list of indicators, and the participants presented their comments and suggestions to improve and update the list of indicators covering other sectors of the economy and social statistics.. The workshop participants also raised the issue of better coordination and avoiding duplication of data collection and information input within the framework of various projects.
Taking into account the proposals the given list will be finalized and discussed at the next workshop for training users the DevInfo program.
