Training seminar "Using international standard industrial classification of economic activities to conduct a statistical survey"

 On September 23-26 the Statistical Agency under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) organized a training workshop. The UNFPA provides countries with technical assistance to strengthen their capacities in achievement census statistics, and thus contributes to sustainable development and comprehensive harmonious growth.

The opening speech at the seminar was given by Ms. Bakhtiya Mukhammadieva, the Director of the Statistical Agency and Mr. Alisher Ashurov, a representative of the UNFPA country office in Tajikistan. The training workshop was attended by the central office staff of the Statistical Agency, representatives from statistical departments of GBAO, Sughd, Khatlon and Dushanbe, and the RRS local statistical offices: Tursunzade, Hissar, Rudaki and Vahdat.

During the discussion at the workshop more attention was focused on using the standard industrial classification of economic activities within the statistics, improvement of the classification of types of activities in conducting statistical surveys (population census of and agricultural census) and its use in the questionnaire for the main and pilot agricultural censuses.

The draft of the agriculture census questionnaire, instructions for filling in the questionnaire and its coding in accordance with standard industrial classification of economic activities were also considered at the workshop.

In order to prepare the documents for the agricultural census the participants discussed organizational plans, instructions for preparation of maps, making the list of agricultural and non-agricultural enterprises, dekhkan farms and family farms, the procedure for determining the load on enumerators, heads of census divisions, instructors, controllers and interviewers were.

Regarding the implementation of the preparatory work for the pilot census in Sarband the procedure to complete the questionnaire for agricultural enterprises, auxiliary farms of the ministries and departments, dekhkan farms and family farms both in rural and urban areas, the problems with the preparatory work and their solution was considered.

The experience of the agricultural census in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan was considered and finally there was an exchange of views.

The adopted recommendations will be the first step towards a partnership of all stakeholders for further active measures to increase knowledge and exchange experience.
