On July 9-13, 2012 the second mission of the Global Assessment of the National Statistical System was conducted at the Statistical Agency. The mission consisted of Mr. Gabriel Gamez from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), Ms. Siv Irene Pederson from EUROSTAT and Mr. Heinrich Brüngger from the European Free Trade Organization (EFTA).
The purpose of this mission was to discuss the draft global assessment report and comments to each chapter of the report presented by experts of the Statistical Agency.
After meeting with the top management of the Statistical Agency under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan the interviews were held with all heads and experts of the subject matter departments, including the Main Computing Center (MCC), to discuss the comments submitted.
Four chapters of the report were discussed – the legal basis, the national statistical system, the system of the Statistical Agency, data sources and data processing, quality control, the registers and nomenclature, and subject matter statistics.
Meetings were held with the coordinator of statistics from the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, with the UN Resident Coordinator in Tajikistan, with the members of the Interdepartmental Statistical Council, and with individual ministries and agencies.
Finally, main conclusions and recommendations to be incorporated in the final report were discussed with the management of the Statistical Agency and also the schedule of next steps (organization of the seminar with producers and users of statistical data) and organization of the process of further development.
The purpose of missions was to assess the level of compliance of the national statistical system with the international and European standards adopted, including the fundamental principles of official statistics and the European Statistics Code of Practice.
